Funeral details for Gerry Matthews: The service will be held on Friday, 29 May at 11:30 at St James' Church, Church Street, Chipping Campden, Glos GL55 6JG with a wake afterwards at the Kings Arms in High Street, Mickleton GL55 6RT (a 6-minute drive away). Anyone who knew Gerry is warmly welcome at both. To assist with arrangements, please email Gerry's son Will on [email protected] if you plan to attend. RIP Gerry Matthews, who died unexpectedly last week in hospital following a fall in his garden. He was 80. A legendary figure in the UK jeanswear and casualwear sectors, in a long career Gerry worked for Levi Strauss, then was a partner in high street supplier Smith & Brooks, and latterly ran a supplier business called Solos. Many condolences to his wife Jane, Gerry's four children Elliott, Karl, Will and Bea, his grandchildren and Gerry's many friends. In the photo Gerry and I are seen in 2025 at a memorial gathering for another larger-than-life industry character, Stewart Austerfield. PS Recently Gerry attended the funeral of another well-known jeanswear industry figure, Peter Abbiss, who worked for Levi's and Lee. Peter died in early April.
