Excited to share our latest publication in Briefings in Bioinformatics! A paper from our lab, titled: “DeepPTMPred: A Multi-modal Deep Learning Framework for Accurate Prediction of Protein Post-Translational Modification Sites” has just been published. This work presents a deep learning framework that integrates protein sequence, evolutionary information from ESM-2, and structural features from AlphaFold to predict 17 different types of post-translational modifications (PTMs) with high accuracy. The model achieved AUCs as high as 96.5% for hydroxylation, and demonstrated strong performance across multiple PTM types, while also successfully identifying known and emerging phosphorylation biomarkers relevant to Alzheimer's disease. What makes this paper particularly special is that it marks the first joint first-author publication from PhD student, Qianhui Jiang. 🎓👏 As many supervisors will appreciate, there is something uniquely rewarding about seeing a student's transition from scholastic excellence to research output focused, which is key to successful PhD training and her placement in the highly competitive job market. Congratulations, Qianhui! This is a wonderful milestone, and even more excitingly, she already has two additional papers currently under review/revision. I look forward to seeing many more achievements ahead. I would also like to recognize the fantastic team effort behind this work: 🔹 PhD students: Dan Yu, Jiahui Guan, Xiaoling Lu 🔹 Research staff: Bin Yan 🔹 Our long-term collaborators: Dr. Yong Liu from Guangxi Minzu University and Dr. Jing Qin Sun Yan-sen University Shenzhen Campus. Science is always a collective endeavor, and I am grateful to work with such dedicated colleagues and trainees. A special thank you to our collaborators, funding agencies, and the computational resources provided by HKU and partner institutions that helped make this work possible. 📄 Paper: https://lnkd.in/gaWBXCCb #DeepLearning #ArtificialIntelligence #Bioinformatics #Proteomics #ProteinScience #AlphaFold #ESM2 #MachineLearning #PrecisionMedicine #AlzheimersDisease #HKU #Research #PhDJourney #TeamScience
