It’s a wrap, but the fight continues. Every year, Relay for Life Singapore takes on its own rendition of the Relay for Life global movement. We contextualize it and gave it the local flavour - 人情味. Celebrate - we come together for a time of energy and good vibes, focusing on the power of humanity to rise beyond circumstances, celebrating strengths, resilience, breakthroughs, conquest and even recovery. The team came together for a carnival-like gathering, with stage performance, activities to capture community voices and messages to uplift, encourage and pledge our solidarity with the cancer community! Remember - yet we know the journey is extremely dark and lonely for many. Remember segment curates an opportunity and a space for us to pause, ponder, and consider. I was in a telephone booth recording a message for our cancer community, and as I heard myself verbalising my wishes, I found it an incredibly emotional and deep experience. We had an empty table component, to remember those whom we lost to cancer. Fight back - this is the iconic finale. We rallied the 6,000+ participants who had been with us close to 12 hours by that point in time. One individual clocking in at 108km solo, and many others having gone the whole night without sleep, and many many rounds around the track. The fight back saw us bringing together different parts of the cancer community - corporate and public supporters, community groups, and the cancer survivors themselves. It was a slow jog/march of solidarity, as all of us cross the finishing line together to mark the end of the event. I love the storytelling! I found myself deeply moved as I spoke to cancer survivors, people who had risen above and beyond. I found myself deeply inspired by staffs and supporters who truly believed and are convicted about the cause. I found myself greatly encouraged to know that resource holders and partners want to do more for our friends! Hope is a big thing. It’s an unseeable thing. To some extent, you exercise faith in hope. And we come together, finding a bit more reason to believe, because of people like you and I. Relay for Life 2026 forms one of my core memories in cancer work, and I am super thankful! Of course, super super thankful for the many many friends who came to support, sent texts, donated! I’ve been so greatly blessed, and I look forward to many more opportunities to connect and explore how we can do more together!
