๐Ÿ”ง Grinding Booster? Crushing and grinding technologies have accompanied the evolution of the Portland cement industry since its beginnings. However, the approach to comminution has radically changed over time. In 1976, Prof. Hans Rumpf stated in a lecture for the Fine Particle Society in England that โ€œenergy consumption in comminution could be reduced by up to 90% when breaking single particles instead of compact masses.โ€ His work laid the foundation for energy-efficient grinding. This research was continued and expanded by his student, Prof. Klaus Schรถnert, who investigated particle breakage mechanisms in the 100 ยตm to 3 mm range. One of Schรถnertโ€™s key contributions was the American Patent No. 4,357,287 titled "Method of Fine and Very Fine Comminution of Materials Having Brittle Behavior", which led to the development of the High-Pressure Grinding Rolls (HPGR) โ€” a revolutionary technology that transformed the way we reduce particle size in hard and abrasive materials. In the cement industry, HPGRs are commonly known as Hydraulic Roller Press (HRP) and serve as highly efficient equipment in grinding circuits. Their main applications include: โžก๏ธPre-crushing before the ball mill to reduce energy demand. โžก๏ธStandalone grinding booster to enhance throughput. โžก๏ธFinal stage crushing for very abrasive materials like clinker, granite, or silicified limestone. ๐Ÿ‘‰ Take a look at the video โ€” it shows the components and operation of a typical HPGR unit.
