What happens when ecological collapse is no longer perceived as a catastrophe, but as a holiday destination? In this short teaser from Wonderful Vacation in Plastic follows several humanoid families as they leave their comfortable homes for a seaside resort made entirely of plastic waste. Once there, they behave like ordinary tourists. They sunbathe, drink coffee, play in the water, take souvenir photographs, explore ruins and collect strange plastic objects to bring home. The work is structured as an infinite loop. From home to departure, from holiday pleasure to return, and finally back into the quiet emptiness of domestic life. Using the visual language of home videos, tourist snapshots and holiday memories, the work explores how ecological catastrophe becomes normalised when it is absorbed into familiar rituals of leisure, consumption, image-making and escape. Plastic is no longer only a sign of environmental damage. It becomes scenery, decoration, souvenir and memory. The work is currently presented as part of Digital Emotions — From Electric Pulse to Human Touch at Hong Kong Design Centre, Hong Kong, through 31 August 2026. Generative audiovisual work, single-channel video, sound, infinite loop. Music by DVA (Jan Kratochvíl and Barbora Ungerová). Curated by Pavel Mrkus and Man Tin. #ContemporaryArt #GenerativeAI #NewMediaArt
