📍 This week, we hosted a lunchtime seminar at the EU Maritime Spatial Planning Week on 'Blue Carbon for Climate-Smart Maritime Spatial Planning'. It was an opportunity to share concrete work from our Blue Carbon Knowledge Hub and open up the conversation on what better policy integration could look like in practice. Gabrielle Aubert presented our recent policy brief, 'Pathways and opportunities for a better policy integration of Blue Carbon Ecosystems under the EU #LULUCF Regulation'. Her presentation covered the role of #bluecarbon ecosystems in ocean-climate action, the existing gaps that hinder their recognition under the EU climate policy framework, and the pathways available to bridge those gaps. Juan José RONCO ZAPATERO then addressed the spatial dimension: how blue carbon connects to Maritime Spatial Planning, and what it means in practice to design #MSP that actively prioritises climate mitigation, ecological resilience and nature-based solutions. He also offered concrete options for spatial integration and practical guidance for planners and policymakers navigating the science-policy interface. Thank you to everyone who joined the discussion! 📎 The policy brief is available for consultation here: https://lnkd.in/ekJ-T3TF
