It is with profound sadness that I share the passing of my Dad, Professor Christopher Balogun-Lynch, who died peacefully at home on 15th June 2026. Born in Sierra Leone, graduating in Law at Oxford and later in medicine from St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, he became a pioneering obstetrician and gynaecological surgeon. He is best known for developing the B-Lynch Brace Suture, a life-saving technique for severe postpartum haemorrhage that, since its publication in 1997, has saved the lives of countless mothers worldwide while preserving their fertility. He was one of the founding consultants at Milton Keynes Hospital where he helped build the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology over more than two decades. We are deeply grateful for the care he received there in his later years. His commitment to women’s health ran throughout his life. He founded the Myrtle Peach Trust Charity for the prevention and treatment of cervical and ovarian cancer, later returned to Sierra Leone to teach and mentor the next generation of doctors, and was awarded the Grand Officer of the Republic of Sierra Leone and a place in the National Portrait Gallery in London. Beyond all of this, he was a devoted father, grandfather, mentor, colleague and friend. Growing up, I was always aware of his achievements, but it was only after entering medicine myself that I understood their true significance — it was a strange thing to see my own surname appear as an EMQ option in my fifth-year exam paper! We are grateful for the many messages and tributes received in recent days, which have been a great comfort to our family. His legacy lives on in the doctors he mentored, the women whose lives he helped save, the family he loved, and the countless people worldwide who continue to benefit from his work. He will be greatly missed and forever remembered. Professor Christopher Balogun-Lynch 1944–2026 May he rest in peace 🙏🏽 Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists | RCOG Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust Queen Mary University of London
