This was one of the most insightful collaborations, I personally was a part of. Together with my colleagues and friends Ariel Yuhan Ong, David Merle, Andreas Pollreisz, Mertcan Sevgi, Siegfried Wagner and Pearse Keane, we teamed up with 3 flight safety experts from Lufthansa, Roman Huemer, Julian Oehling and Markus Jäger, to learn from their expertise gathered in more than 50 years of combined experience in the field of flight safety. The goal was to understand how automatisation has changed their industry, how the automatisation paradox has lead to avoidable human errors, what children of the magenta lines are and how we can adapt this to our current efforts of implementing medical AI. What we have learned from this, how we can address the risk of skill erosions across generations, how our training has to change for the next generation to avoid never skilling, and what a true safety culture could mean, can be read here: https://lnkd.in/ebHcDxTi. We have formulated 5 flight rules for clinical AI, and would hope for a vibrant discussion, because there is a lot at risk, if we just implement AI without addressing the potential downsides on our personal skills, development, and above all, patient care. Have a read, let us know what you think, if you agree or disagree, because this shouldn´t be a top down discussion, this should rather be a dialogue that leads to improved patient care and safety, to more skilled and efficient clinical care using AI as a co-pilot than rather an autopilot. Many thanks to all involved!!!
