🚨Meet our New Deputy Chief of Operations Matthew “Matt” Gordon🚨 Matthew Gordon has served the Las Vegas community for more than 28 years in increasingly responsible positions with Las Vegas Fire & Rescue. He emphasizes reliability, coordination and accountability to ensure emergency services are delivered safely, effectively, and in line with the department’s mission and city priorities. As Battalion Chief, he commands seven fire stations and approximately 70 personnel. He routinely serves as Incident Commander for high-risk incidents, including structure fires, hazardous materials responses and mass casualty events. His operational expertise is supported by a strong record in personnel development, training, and organizational leadership. Chief Gordon previously served as Fire Captain, Firefighter/Paramedic, and Firefighter. At the enterprise level, Chief Gordon has advanced strategic initiatives to strengthen organizational performance and integration. He has led major projects in equipment evaluation and procurement, including implementing a department-wide self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) program. He is also active in policy development, training programs, and interagency planning. Chief Gordon is a member of the Truck Company Work Group, the Employee Recognition Board, and serves as the LVFR Agency Representative for Nevada Task Force 1 (FEMA Urban Search and Rescue). Chief Gordon brings extensive regional and national incident response experience as Task Force Leader for Nevada Task Force 1. He has deployed to major disasters, including Hurricane Ida, the Maui wildfires, Hurricane Helene, Hurricane Milton, and the Kerrville floods. In these roles, he has worked within unified command structures with local, state, and federal partners to support coordinated, large-scale response operations. He also serves as an alternate Safety Officer with the FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Incident Support Team, contributing to national coordination and operational safety. Chief Gordon holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Homeland Defense and Security Studies at the Naval Postgraduate School, Center for Homeland Defense and Security. Chief Gordon’s leadership philosophy centers on trust, clear communication and empowerment. He is dedicated to building strong teams, fostering accountability and respect, and ensuring Las Vegas Fire & Rescue continues to provide exceptional service to the community.
