Project Assistant | Doctoral Candidate @ TU Wien
Our team is hiring!!! Please spread the word. 🔬 Research topic: “Development of a decision support system for optimizing ladle management under dynamic and sustainable conditions” The overall project REFFRACTEUR (“Digital REFractory FRAmework for a Carbon neutral and Resilient indusTry in EURope”) focuses on refractory materials for high-temperature industries (steel, cement, glass), combining advanced materials science with digital tools (AI, digital twins) and sustainability assessment. Within this project, the company FESIOS (https://www.fesios.com/) and the Institute of Energy Systems and Thermodynamics at TU Wien jointly provide dual industrial/academic supervision of DC#15. In line with the funding requirements, this dual academic/industrial supervision will be provided by hosting DC#15 at FESIOS (18 months) and TU Wien (18 months), both in Austria. The scientific goal of DC#15 is to develop a decision support system for ladle management under dynamic and sustainable conditions. This means: Combine predictive analytics, such as condition assessment, remaining useful life and heat-loss forecasts, with prescriptive analytics for optimisation and scheduling Map operator logic and plant constraints to come up with optimized schedules that can be tested by combination with FESIOS’ discrete event simulation Provide plant operators with optimized suggestions for ladle management Investigate the integration of low-carbon ladle heating options, such as electricity and hydrogen, to further reduce emissions while also considering the effects on scheduling  📋 Key eligibility rule — MSCA Mobility Rule: Applicants must NOT have resided or carried out their main activity in Austria for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date. This means we are specifically looking for candidates from abroad.  📌 Quick facts: Fully funded 3-year PhD (36 months) Application deadline: 8th of June 2026 Start: January 2027 Hosts: FESIOS and TU Wien Academic supervisors at TU Wien: Prof. René HOFMANN, Dr. Florian MÜLLER  🔗 Useful links: Official project website (apply here): https://lnkd.in/dGdzBp6f Additional project information by TU Wien: https://lnkd.in/dGy_Yvdk #PHD_position #TUW #TU_Wien #IET
