Cambridge | Independent Business Founder | Moving into B2B Sales (SDR/BDR)

5 years ago, if you’d told my family, or me, that I’d graduate from Cambridge with a First, they’d have laughed. Not because they doubted me exactly. It’s just that back at GCSEs, “Cambridge” wasn’t in the realistic conversation. It was the school everyone else’s kid went to. I got there anyway. And this week, I graduated from the University of Cambridge (Fitzwilliam College) with a First Class degree in History. But here’s the thing nobody tells you about a degree like this: the real value was never the essays, the reading lists, or even the result itself. The real value was the clarity. Three years of building arguments from first principles, defending them under pressure, and ruthlessly cutting the ones that didn’t hold up taught me how to think, not what to think. That’s the transferable part nobody puts on the certificate. So what now? I’m taking that clarity, that argument-construction, that comfort with pressure, and applying it to a career in B2B sales. Not as a fallback, but as a deliberate choice, because I think the skills that got me here are exactly the skills that win in a room with a prospect. To anyone who was told at 16 that they “weren’t Oxbridge material”, do remember that’s a starting line, not a ceiling. Onwards.
