Can a book plant a tree in someone’s mind before they plant one in the ground? This week, I had the privilege of sitting with a group of remarkable teenagers during our Eco-Conscious Book Club, where we explored my book, Digging Holes in Tomorrow. They shared their favorite chapters. They recited lines that stayed with them long after they had closed the last page. They spoke about the climate activism that inspired them most and asked thoughtful questions that challenged me to see my own work through fresh eyes. One question lingered with me: “Can storytelling really change the future?” My answer was simple: every movement begins with a story that convinces someone to care. Together, we discussed climate literacy through creative writing, poetry, storytelling, and art. We imagined a world where young people do not merely inherit environmental problems but become authors of environmental solutions. Moments like these remind me that climate action is not only found in policies, protests, and conferences. Sometimes, it begins with a teenager turning a page. If you could ask the author of a climate book one question, what would it be? I am open to visiting schools, churches, universities, communities, and book clubs to discuss Digging Holes in Tomorrow and other climate-themed books. I would also be delighted to support the creation of Eco-Conscious Book Clubs that nurture climate literacy, critical thinking, creativity, and hope.
