Twelve years ago, the world came together to stop Ebola from becoming a global catastrophe and learned some hard lessons about what works: attack the disease at the source, move fast, support frontline health workers, and build trust with communities. Today, my daughter Dr. Vanessa Kerry, MD MSc and I wrote this op-ed for The Wall Street Journal about why those lessons matter again. Uganda's current Ebola outbreak is a reminder that infectious diseases don't respect borders and that delays are costly. As CEO of Seed Global Health (and long before!) Vanessa has spent much of her career building health system capacity across Africa, and we hope it helps focus attention on what can still be done to prevent a larger crisis. https://lnkd.in/eyVztHtu
