A personal story about scientists and remembering people who matter Today was a special day for female mathematicians in the UK….a blue plaque was unveiled in Cambridge for Dame Mary Cartwright. The first woman to get a First class degree in Maths in 1923 University of Oxford at St Hugh's College, Oxford. The first female mathematician to be elected to The Royal Society in 1947 after her work on radar and chaos theory. Yet she never got the title of Professor… I am delighted my nomination of Dame Mary for a blue plaque by Historic England was considered and approved. When we bought our house six years ago we discovered her story growing up here until she went to University. I hope that this story inspires my daughter and other girls to remember those that treaded these boards before her. Press Release in the link below https://lnkd.in/e44QUdNb
