How do teams become sustainably high performing? Reflect, for a few moments, on the team you currently lead. Now, consider the questions below: 1. Do you individually reflect and collectively work on your 'how' agenda as well as your 'what' agenda? 2. Do you have a positive, fair, consistent and proactive relationship with all your direct reports? 3. Do you regularly, explicitly & collaboratively create a safe, encouraging, inclusive culture for your team? 4. Do you ensure that your team don't leave meetings or conversations with important things unsaid? 5. Do you regularly and authentically seek and offer feedback? 6. Does everyone on your team always know, explicitly, what's expected of them? Your responses to the questions above will give you a strong sense of your current reality. If you've answered yes to all of the above, congratulations, you're a highly effective leader. If not, consider what's stopping you? Being able to give honest affirmative responses to these 6 questions, in my experience, are critical components in enabling sustainable high performance.
