I sometimes forget how much psychology helps when working on projects. This evening, I told myself I just needed to get that “one last thing” done before calling it a day. I did it! Positive outcome achieved. Then I did something equally important—I walked away. No “just one more thing.” No tinkering. I stopped. Now I can have dinner with my wife and in-laws fully present. I’ll actually sleep tonight instead of tossing and turning over the problem. And tomorrow I can pick up where I left off, confident in my next steps. When you’ve been putting in long hours on various tasks, knowing when to walk away is crucial. It’s not quitting—it’s setting yourself up for success the next day.
