This is Nick. He is the owner of Lexie’s on the Beach. The much-loved cafe at the heart of the Stockton community. This morning, as I arrived to announce Labor’s support for offshore marine dredging as an important way to replenish the beachfront with sand, Nick learned that his cafe would be closed down as erosion had made it unsafe. Stockton is slipping away and every day brings a new heartbreak. Already, the preschool has been forced to shut, holiday cabins have been relocated, and the surf club is at dire risk. Gladys Berejiklian has known about this issue for months but she hasn’t even visited or shown interest. The government can approve offshore marine dredging today. Experts support it, it has worked on the Gold Coast and we owe it to locals like Nick to leave no option unturned.
