“You Americans think of Christianity as a farm with a fence. Your question is ‘Are you inside the fence or outside it?’ We think of Christianity as a farm with no fence. Our question is ‘Are you heading toward the farm or away from it?” Love this quote from Kenda Creasy Dean’s "Almost Christian." Doesn’t it change how we think about faith and inviting people into it? What if we stopped thinking of people as “outsiders” and started thinking of them as all people on their own journey? No one is “out.” Everyone is finding their way. Isn't it better if we don’t set up an “us/them” antagonistic relationship with people? Fences alienate. They tell others they have to fit certain criteria to enter. Only we have the key to the gate. Wouldn’t an inviting, joyful stance and a tale of a farm without fences be a better story to tell? #ChurchLeadership #ChurchFamily #Discipleship
