Doctoral Student

My name is Jessica Hormann and I am a doctoral student at Georgia State University in Middle and Secondary Education, Language and Literacy. I am currently only working as a student. My interests include Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS), second language acquisition, English as a foreign language acquisition, and the experiences of immigrants and the Indigenous around the world in language learning (including endangered language preservation). During and after the stresses of COVID-19, I believe teachers were among the service professionals bearing the worst brunt of high demands for student care. Teachers were expected to teach both online and in person at the same times. High virtual integration was not only made an option, but made necessary to make it through the pandemic. In the U.S., teachers are undervalued professionally and not adequately paid. I believe all these factors contribute to teachers leaving the profession. What do you think? #GSUEdLead @GSUEdLead
