I watched last nights game (England v Argentina) as a fan - my friends tell me it is my only option because I don't really understand football 😁 ā¤ļøā€šŸ©¹ Of course I was upset – when a team we strongly identify with loses it feels terrible, it affects our self-esteem and pride. The loss of status leads to a visceral pain... sadness... for some anger! That is social identity in action. That's how the players, staff and manger feel too. It will take time to get over. šŸ’Ŗ But how magnificent it is to be prepared to put yourself on the line, to risk yourself like these young men have. I am left full of admiration for and pride in the England team; players, staff and the manager. šŸ”„ In the furnace of disappointment and instant media analyses blame will of course be placed. If we didn't care we wouldn't blame. But my hunch is that when the temperature cools Tuchel and his boys achievement will be remembered for what it was - exceptional. šŸ‰ On Saturday we play Argentina again... in the rugby union Nations Cup. An opportunity for redemption in a game I do understand! šŸ˜‡
