This morning, California’s school facilities leaders received the sad news of Tom Duffy’s passing. As I read the notice, I was filled with sadness and grief, but also with tremendous gratitude for the chance to work with him over the past six years. His absence at last week’s CASH conference was noticeable, and I can still clearly picture him standing at the back of the room during sessions, posing thoughtful and insightful questions to State agencies and other presenters—always with the goal of guiding and supporting those of us in the facilities field. I’m especially grateful for the way Tom encouraged me to become more involved with CASH. His leadership had a profound impact, particularly through the opportunities he offered many of us to participate in panels and presentations. Through those experiences, we grew in confidence, leadership, and our ability to help others grow as well. Tom’s unwavering commitment to improving school facilities—and, by extension, the lives of California’s students—was truly inspiring. His passing leaves a significant void, and we will all deeply miss his presence and tireless efforts. The link below provides the official announcement from CASH this morning:
