We documented what happened. Now we’re sharing it with the world On 1 November 2025, landslides tore through Elgeyo Marakwet County — burying homes, sweeping away families, and destroying livelihoods overnight. From the ground: 🔴 30+ lives lost 🔴 50+ people injured 🔴 151 households affected — 78 destroyed, 73 rendered uninhabitable These are not just statistics. They are families in Chesongoch, Endo Ward, Kamoko, and Moror. In the aftermath, Jenga Future conducted a post-disaster analysis — not just to document the damage, but to understand why this keeps happening. Our findings point to deeper structural risks: • Deforestation • Settlement on fragile escarpments • Weak land-use enforcement • Intensifying rainfall linked to climate change We are proud that this report is now published on PreventionWeb by UNDRR — bringing evidence from Kenya’s North Rift to a global audience. But this is not a one-off tragedy. Elgeyo Marakwet has faced recurring landslides for decades. What must change is not the terrain — but how we act on what we already know. 📖 Read the full report via the link below https://lnkd.in/dTyFCxrs 📢 Share with policymakers, county governments, and partners working on disaster risk reduction United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) PreventionWeb #ElgeyoMarakwet #JengaFuture #DisasterRiskReduction #ClimateResilience #Kenya #NorthRift #Landslides #SendaiFramework
