Most career stress isn’t random. It follows patterns we keep repeating. And there are a few timeless “laws” that quietly explain why work feels harder than it should. The problem isn’t always workload. It’s how we think about it. Here are 5 laws that shape careers more than any strategy: 1/ Murphy’s Law → Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong  So build buffers. Assume friction. Plan for reality, not perfection. 2/ Kidlin’s Law → Writing a problem clearly solves half of it Most people feel stuck because their thinking is vague. Clarity reduces overwhelm instantly. 3/ Gilbert’s Law  → Ownership of a task means ownership of the outcome  Not effort. Not intent. Outcome. Accountability is what builds trust and reputation. 4/ Wilson’s Law  → Prioritise knowledge and intelligence, money follows Skills compound. Credentials fade. Capability is what sustains careers long-term. 5/ Falkland’s Law → If a decision isn’t necessary, don’t make it Not every choice deserves energy. Strategic restraint is a leadership skill. Remember: Careers rarely break from one big mistake. They drift from small patterns repeated daily. The laws are simple. Living them consistently is the real work.
