We’re excited to share that our community battery at Pitcher Park in Alphington is now storing locally generated renewable energy to share with the wider community. This is one of four community batteries we have installed within the Jemena Electricity Network in Melbourne’s north-west and is supported by the Australian Government’s Community Batteries for Household Solar program. A big thanks to the Alphington community for their support of this battery, especially our community reference group members. Our retail partner for the four community batteries is Origin Energy. Origin manages each battery through its virtual power plant, allowing the battery to charge when renewable energy is plentiful and discharge to support the grid during peak times. Homes and businesses on the same low-voltage network as the community batteries automatically access the energy they store through their existing electricity supply without having to change retailers. The battery features incredible artwork by Simone Thomson, a proud Wurundjeri and Yorta-Yorta woman.
