Today: Giovanni De Santi ‘’Welcome to EU V.P Teresa Ribera as Polito Award Laureate’’ Teresa Ribera Executive V.P of the EU Commission, received the “Foresight and Innovation” PoliTo International Award 2026, in a ceremony held at the Academia of Science in Turin on 12.6.2026. Our Director De Santi celebrated her as a symbol of a Europe capable of combining strategic vision, public responsibility, and leadership. •1 Teresa Ribera’s strategic vision lies precisely in her capacity to see the clean transition not as a sectoral policy, but as the organizing principle of Europe’s future. She understands that sustainability, competitiveness, energy autonomy, industrial strength, innovation, and social equity are not separate agendas, but parts of the same European project. •2 The responsibility she holds today is therefore immense: she is called to help shape the conditions under which Europe can remain open yet less vulnerable, ambitious yet realistic, competitive yet fair. Teresa Ribera is presented as someone who can help Europe reduce strategic vulnerabilities without closing itself off, accelerate decarbonization without weakening manufacturing, strengthen energy security while preserving social equity, and secure materials, skills, infrastructure, and investment without losing political direction. •3 This is the leadership we ask of her: to help Europe find its direction in a time of complexity, to show that the road ahead will not be discovered by waiting, but built by acting, deciding, investing, and walking together. •4 Then we quotes the Spanish poet Antonio Machado: “Traveler, there is no road; the road is made by walking” This quotation is used to ask, symbolically, to help “show the way” for Europe: not by waiting for the future, but by preparing, building, and governing it. •5 The leadership expected from her is therefore proactive, courageous, and constructive: a leadership able to transform uncertainty into a European path forward.
