My deepest condolences to the people and nation of Qatar on the passing of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, former Emir of Qatar. My husband Richard and I moved to Qatar in 2006, during his reign. Richard had accepted a role with the newly established Al Jazeera English - a testament to the Emir's extraordinary vision for his nation and its place on the world stage. That vision was bold, far-reaching and unmistakably rooted in a deep belief in Qatar's potential and its people. We were privileged to live and build our lives in Qatar during those years - first under his leadership, and later under the reign of his son. It was there, in that remarkable country, which I enjoyed hugely, that Empower World was born, co-founded with my dear partner Marie Quigley. Qatar gave two women the environment, the opportunity and the community to build something meaningful. We met so many extraordinary people doing extraordinary things. The country drew them in - and Sheikh Hamad's vision created the conditions that made that possible. Deeply gratefur for the opportunity to experience the country during his ruling. His legacy is not simply written in the institutions, landmarks and ambitions he built. It is written in the lives of every person who found their purpose, their community or their calling in Qatar. My thoughts are with all those who are connected him and are feeling his loss today. 🙏 https://lnkd.in/eyHG5zP4
