New Mexico has made major progress in clean electricity, but reaching net zero will require more than adding renewable generation. It will also require overcoming key grid challenges, including transmission capacity, reliability, infrastructure planning, and the pace of deployment. In order to do that, we'll need effective and data-informed policy. That's why Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department of New Mexico and New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology are working on the DETECT platform. The platform prototype incorporate New Mexico specific datasets, dashboard and stories to explain New Mexico Energy System in data. This story explores why the power grid and CO2 accounting adjusted to imports are central to decarbonizing New Mexico’s power sector.
