⁉️ Can sustainability make a difference if people don't understand it? Working on the latest Brussels Airport Annual Report reminded me that sustainability is not only about targets, data and technical solutions. It's also about storytelling. ✒️ I had the opportunity to contribute to the sections on decarbonisation, sustainable development and Stargate - EU Green Deal of this report. To do so, I also had the pleasure of interviewing our Head of Sustainable Development Christel Vandenhouten and our Head of Energy Martin Jasienski, whose knowledge and passion for these topics helped shape the narrative. 🌿 From a sustainable development perspective, the aviation sector is facing one of the most important transitions in its history. From decarbonisation and renewable energy to circularity and sustainable mobility, remarkable initiatives are taking place across the industry to make it move in the right direction. Yet their impact can be lost if they remain confined to technical reports, policies and KPIs. That's where storytelling comes in. 🤝 Good sustainability communication helps connect the dots. It turns complex projects into relatable stories. It explains not only what is being done, but why it matters. It makes innovation tangible, highlights the people behind the progress and helps create understanding, trust and engagement. As communicators, we have a responsibility to make these conversations accessible without oversimplifying them. Because, further than being a technical story, sustainability is a human challenge. Kudos to our Chef D'uOrchestre Florence Van Staey for coordinating this whole endeavour, and thanks to Laure Vandeghinste, Ariane Goossens, Marleen Vanhecke and Hilde Van den Berghe for sharing the pen and creating this awesome "In-flight Magazine", to Elsabé Nel and Nikki Vandervost for their tips and insights on sustainability reporting.
