We are pleased to share the publication of our latest paper in Natural Hazards and Earth System Sciences (NHESS European Geosciences Union (EGU))! 🎉 The study tackles one of flood risk modelling’s biggest challenges: producing extreme events that have never been observed before. Using AI to generate more than 1,000 realistic synthetic winter seasons for the Elbe River basin, the research revealed a far wider range of plausible extreme storms and floods than traditional approaches. For anyone working in flood risk, insurance, finance, or climate adaptation, our study demonstrates how AI can improve our understanding and assessment of future flood risk.
