Where Tradition Finds New Light. 🏮 Fukuoka Prefecture's Yame lanterns are among Japan's finest traditional lanterns. Crafted using a unique technique that shapes each lantern from a single continuous bamboo strip, they are known for their exceptional durability, flexibility, and elegant forms. Among the few workshops preserving this tradition, Ito Gonjiro Shoten, founded in 1815, is the workshop specializing in decorative lanterns for shrines, temples, and commercial spaces. Under eighth-generation artisan ITO Hironori, Yame lanterns have expanded their potential, illuminating contemporary spaces from hotel interiors to international movie sets. This exquisite craftsmanship, which has long lit up Japanese nights, is now beginning to beautifully illuminate spaces across the globe. 🌍
