🌍 We just published the 3rd edition of the State of Carbon Dioxide Removal report — and the message is urgent. CDR is where renewables were in the 1990s. We know what needs to happen. We know how fast it needs to scale. And right now, we are not moving fast enough. 📉 The numbers don't lie: ⚡ Novel CDR — biochar, DACCS, BECCS, enhanced weathering — is tiny. Growing fast at ~40%/yr, but tiny. We need gigatonne scale by mid-century. ⏳ The CDR gap is widening: 0.3 Gt in 2030 → 1.2 Gt in 2035 → 5.2 Gt in 2050. Countries cannot wait. Every year of delay makes the cliff steeper. 💰 Investment has held relatively steady — but future demand signals are getting more fragile, not stronger. That's a warning sign. —— ☀️ The good news? The growth rates needed are ambitious — but not unprecedented. Solar PV and EVs got there. CDR can too. But only if we act now. We've spent decades leaving climate action too late. We can't do it again with CDR. Emissions reductions come first — but scaling removal cannot wait until reductions are "done." 🙏 Huge thanks to every researcher, modeller, and contributor who made this report possible.
