Recently, I went on a podcast with the indefatigable Bernard Leong, an Oxbridge-trained theoretical physicist, AI entrepreneur, business school professor, and podcast host of Analyse Asia (talk about someone who wears multiple hats with distinction). The show has a tech-oriented focus—check out the archive, which has a bunch of interviews with luminaries in the space—but in my case, I spoke mainly about the Asian development story, as I see it (which, for those of you that have read my book, will recognize the emphasis on the role of geographic constraints, historical path dependence, idiosyncratic institutions, and distinct economic structures and systems). Of course, that story also holds lessons for how we might expect the economic future to unfold for certain key economic players in NE Asia, notably China and South Korea.
