Colleagues across the business recently took part in a challenge to achieve as many steps as possible during National Walking Month – and together they walked around the world, plus a bit more! 🌍🚶 Originally the target was to reach another SPAR country in South Africa, however, horizons needed to be expanded as our team of walkers had circumnavigated the globe within 23 days! 👏 The final statistics for the event were as follows: - Total Participants: 244 - Grand Total Steps: 67,469,431 - Average Daily Steps per Member: 10,049 - Total Distance Covered: 49,355 km Within the group of walkers, the company also had two ‘step millionaires’ – John and Barry – both from our Fresh Foods Warehouse team who clocked up an amazing 1,120,343 steps and 1,003,110 steps respectively. We also awarded prizes for champions across different part of the business with John named as Warehouse & Operations Champion and Overall Winner. Rowan from our Store Design Team was Head Office Champion, and he, John and Barry are all pictured with Ian Hall receiving their prizes. Our Retail Champion was Retail Assistant, Abigail, from SPAR Southmoor in County Durham, our Manufacturing Champion was Simon from Alston Dairy, while the Power Day Record for most steps in a day was achieved by another Retail Assistant, Linda, from SPAR Norton in Stockton-on-Tees. This is one Health and Wellbeing Challenge that engaged colleagues and enabled them to get on the front foot to improve their fitness.
