What allows some coral reefs to withstand extreme heat – while others don’t? 🪸 This World Ocean Day, we’re highlighting recent research from JCU helping uncover why. Research involving JCU has identified reef sites in the West Australian Houtman Abrolhos group of islands where corals showed minimal bleaching despite prolonged marine heat – even as other locations experienced significant impacts. Corals from these reefs also performed better than expected under heat stress in laboratory testing. What might this mean for future reef conservation?
