On World Rainforest Day, we recognise the global importance of protecting rainforest ecosystems - and at James Cook University , we’re proud to be home to the Daintree Rainforest Observatory. The Observatory supports research into rainforest biodiversity, ecological processes and how these systems respond to environmental change. Located right in the heart of Daintree Rainforest - a World Heritage site, the oldest rainforest in the world, and home to the highest biodiversity of any ecosystem in Australia. It’s a magical landscape rich with unique biota, including numerous living fossils, and a powerful reminder of why rainforest protection matters.
