šŸ”„ Most clubs say they have a game model. Most players couldn’t tell you what it actually means. šŸ’„ The Game Model Illusion šŸ’„ In reality, most have a document. It usually includes: • Principles of play • Phases of the game • Pressing triggers • Build-up patterns It looks impressive. It reads well. But when the game speeds up on Saturday… …it disappears. Why? Because a description of football is not the same as a structure for behavior. A real game model doesn’t just explain how the team should play. It defines: • What behaviors earn selection • What gets corrected immediately • What survives mistakes • What never changes under pressure āš“ Without those anchors, the ā€œmodelā€ becomes optional. And optional principles don’t survive competition. šŸ’” The Reality Players don’t internalize documents. They internalize consequences. If selection, coaching, and training don’t reinforce the model… …the model doesn’t exist. Over the next few posts, I’ll break down why game models collapse in real environments and how high-performing clubs make them work. šŸŽ I’ve also put together a Game Model Implementation Framework I share with clubs when helping them operationalize their model. Comment MODEL and I’ll send it over. #footballcoaching #coachdevelopment #gamemodel #playerdevelopment #youthfootball #highperformance #footballculture
