For most of the year, we see each other in little boxes on a screen. We talk about sprints, architecture, customer challenges, and new features. We exchange messages, comment on tickets, and join one online meeting after another. And sometimes it starts to feel like that’s enough. Then a week like this comes along. A few days when people from different countries, cultures, and time zones come together in one place. For our Alfresco team, that place was Katowice this year. And suddenly, you realize that the best conversations don’t always happen during scheduled workshops. Sometimes they happen over a cup of coffee. During a walk between meetings. At dinner. In those moments that never make it onto the calendar. That’s where something is built that no video call, chat, or email can truly replace: trust, understanding, and the feeling that we’re all moving in the same direction. As I left Katowice, I felt that we had gained more than alignment on goals and priorities. We had gained a deeper understanding of one another. And that is the foundation of every great team. We live in a world that gives us incredible opportunities to work remotely. And that’s a wonderful thing. But I’m increasingly convinced that people still need people — not only to collaborate, but also to connect. Because relationships are not built when we’re simply online. Relationships are built when we’re together. Thank you to everyone who made this time in Katowice so meaningful. We’re returning to our daily work with fresh energy, new ideas, and—most importantly—as an even stronger team. In a world that moves faster every year, meeting in person sometimes feels like a luxury. But perhaps it’s more of a necessity than we realize. Because technology helps us work together. Human connection helps us achieve great things together. Thank you Hyland for making this happen.
