VP Offshore Wind

With the offshore wind business being a little slow these days (why not just be honest...) – it feels even better spending time discussing future technology development, requirements and knowledge gaps etc. At DHI we believe that floating offshore wind one day will reach the market and be an important player in the future global energy landscape. We already support clients with projects within floating offshore wind farm development, demonstration and test projects - but we also feel that better coordination and knowledge exchange are required in order to harvest and gain full potential. Segway to Kyoto, Japan… The "FLOWRA" / Floating Offshore Wind Technology Research Association is a floating offshore wind initiative for knowledge exchange and joining forces bringing floating offshore wind closer to marked realization with a special focus on Japan, where the continental shelf is not many kilometers from shore, making the construction of fixed-bottom offshore wind farms often not ideal/possible. In last weeks “Kyoto Round” I had the pleasure and privilege to join the working committee on “Test and Demonstration”. Together with colleagues from Japan, France, Norway, UK, the Netherlands and Denmark, we had constructive discussions on capabilities and knowledge gaps with specific focus on physical lab testing, full-scale demonstration and site conditions. Floating offshore wind might still be years into the future, but that does not mean that we just sit on our a… waiting. Lots of work to be done – already now…   Great to discuss with fellow committee members Mark Hamilton, Shinya NAGAOKA, Benjamin Pjedsted Pedersen, Takehiko Inagaki, Christophe Maisondieu, Cecilia Girard-Vika, Arvid Nesse, nuno fonseca, Désirée Plenker, Erik-Jan De Ridder and Andrew Macdonald   A very special thanks to Ikari Mototsugu for taking the lead on the "Kyoto Round" and being an excellent host, and thanks to Hans Peter Slente for making the Danish delegation a success.   #offshorewind #floatingwind #windenergy #japan #renewables #marinetesting
