NEW FUND SCOOP: Ashton Kutcher is leaving Sound Ventures, the firm he built with Guy Oseary over 11 years, to launch a brand new VC fund. He's teaming up with Morgan Beller: ex-NFX general partner, a16z alum, and one of the minds behind Meta's Libra project. Here's why this matters šŸ‘‡ Sound Ventures made its name on concentrated, high-conviction bets at the model layer, early checks into OpenAI, Anthropic, and Fei-Fei Li's World Labs. Plus Brex and Gusto on the non-AI side. The exit comes down to a thesis divergence: → Sound is leaning later-stage, backing more established companies → Kutcher wants to go earlier, MUCH earlier The new fund (name still under wraps) will focus on early-stage AI infrastructure, energy, and deep tech, hard science and engineering breakthroughs beyond pure software. Translation: the smart money that backed the AI labs is now moving to the layer underneath them. The compute, the power, the physical stack. And it's staying friendly, Kutcher remains an adviser to Sound, while Oseary and GP Effie Epstein will advise the new firm. When one of the most consistent unicorn pickers of the last decade rotates from models to infrastructure... pay attention.
