Meet Calvin Vel, our commercial payments associate here at TN. Calvin has been with us for over 2 years now, and is a vital part of the operational payments team. Below he shares more his favourite part of the job, a typical day in his role and what keeps him motivated outside of work! What does a typical day look like in your role? My day usually starts early around 7am by reviewing payment activity across our channels and identifying any urgent requests or escalations from internal teams or external stakeholders. I then assess the payments queue to understand the day’s workload and determine where support may be needed across the team. Throughout the day I monitor stakeholder updates and escalations, respond to queries from internal and external teams, and align with the team to keep payment processing on track and meet daily cut-offs. As a client-facing team handling client funds, maintaining same‑day turnaround on queries and transactions is a key priority. During periods of market volatility and increased traffic, it becomes an all-hands-on-deck effort, especially for client transactions, to keep everything running smoothly. What’s your favourite part of your job? I enjoy brainstorming with the team, discussing what approaches to try for specific entities, and finding ways to optimise processes. It’s rewarding to develop practical solutions that improve operational efficiency, streamline the client experience, and make our day-to-day operations run more smoothly. I also enjoy the days when the whole team is in the office. What motivates you outside of work? Fitness and travelling! I’m pretty consistent with the gym, and I like challenging myself, whether that’s trying a new workout or visiting somewhere new. I also dip into Spanish now and then just to keep improving.
