The first 440 t vacuum vessel sector was successfully landed on its gravity support in the ITER tokamak. This first-of-a-kind operation means the load of VV sector #6 was “decoupled” from its temporary supports, the central column and bioshield wall, and is now being fully supported from underneath. All nine sectors will eventually rest on gravity supports, with their weight transferred to the building by the concrete crown under the machine. #fusionenergy #ITER #ITERAssembly #tokamak #vacuumvessel
