On Monday, Issue One joined 11 bipartisan organizations and sent this urgent letter to Congress demanding one thing: 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘣𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘵𝘪𝘵𝘶𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘸𝘢𝘳 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘱𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘦. Our co-signers included Common Cause, Democracy Matters, Faith in Democracy, Mormon Women for Ethical Government, Principles First, Project On Government Oversight, Protect Democracy, RepresentUs, Stand Up America, The Chamberlain Network, and Union of Concerned Scientists. Together, our message was clear: 🏛️ Article I gives Congress—not the President—the sole authority to declare war, fund military action, and oversee its execution. That's not a technicality. That's the entire point of having three branches of government. 🪖 Our troops deserve better than open-ended conflict with no authorization and no plan. And the American people deserve a Congress willing to do its job. 🇺🇸 This isn’t a partisan issue. Presidents of both parties have eroded congressional war powers over decades. Reasserting Article I authority is about restoring the constitutional balance that protects our democracy—regardless of who sits in the White House. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘃𝗼𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝗱𝗮𝘆.
