Hungary just ended 16 years of authoritarian rule. Here's what we can learn from them. This wasn't just Hungary's fight. Putin, Trump, Vance, Marine Le Pen, and Netanyahu all campaigned for Orbรกn. The assault on democracy is coordinated, and its leaders know it. That means the fight for democracy has to be global too. What happened along the Danube last night is a lesson for every country where strongmen are testing the limits โ€” including ours. The playbook is the same everywhere: control the media, rig the rules, stoke fear, pick new villains. So is the antidote. Hungarians were fed up with rigged courts, state-controlled media, and cronyism at every level. Pรฉter Magyar ran on one simple choice: Corruption or liberation? Yesterday, voters chose change. In a landslide. ๐Ÿ“ ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป ๐Ÿฎ: ๐—•๐—ถ๐—ด ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ป๐˜, ๐—ฏ๐—ถ๐—ด ๐˜„๐—ถ๐—ป Magyar united far-left voters, disaffected conservatives, first-timers, and former Orbรกn supporters. He toured relentlessly โ€” including Orbรกn's rural strongholds. Nearly 80% of Hungarians turned out. You don't have to agree on everything. Just that the system needs to change. Gerrymandered the districts. Had Putin, Trump, Vance, Le Pen, and Netanyahu in his corner. The deck was stacked. Magyar's Tisza party still won a supermajority โ€” enough to amend the constitution. Even when the odds seem impossible, showing up matters. ๐Ÿ“ ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป ๐Ÿฐ: ๐—™๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐—ฟ ๐—ถ๐˜€ ๐—ป๐—ผ๐˜ ๐—ฎ ๐—ณ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ฒ๐˜ƒ๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐˜€๐˜๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ๐—ด๐˜† Orbรกn had a villain for every voter โ€” Ukraine, the EU, Soros, LGBTQ communities. Magyar's supporters faced intimidation, job threats, social pressure. They showed up anyway. 53% chose hope over fear. Hope wins. ๐Ÿ“ ๐—Ÿ๐—ฒ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ผ๐—ป ๐Ÿฑ: ๐—–๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ด๐—ฒ ๐—ฐ๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ฝ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ป ๐—ณ๐—ฎ๐˜€๐˜ Under Orbรกn, the EU had stopped recognizing Hungary as a full democracy. After Sunday's results, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed Hungary back โ€” calling it their moment to "reclaim its European path." When people decide it's time, things move quickly. The playbook for democracy is simple: Show up anyway. Build a big tent. Run on something true. Hungary did it. So can we. #Democracy #Hungary #HungaryElection #CivicEngagement
