The Economic Master Plan for the Visakhapatnam Economic Region (VER) was officially released as the report “Developing Visakhapatnam Region as a Global Economic Hub” by the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on 13 November 2025 in Visakhapatnam. The release took place in the presence of the Union Minister for Civil Aviation, the Finance Minister and Social Welfare Minister of Andhra Pradesh, CEO - NITI Aayog, and Chief Secretary - Andhra Pradesh VER’s sustainable and inclusive development is central to both ‘SwarnaAndhra@2047’ vision and India’s 2047 aspiration. To ensure effective and time-bound execution, the Hon’ble CM announced the creation of a dedicated Visakhapatnam Economic Region Authority, chaired by the Hon’ble CM himself, along with the appointment of a full-time CEO to oversee implementation. To kick-start the implementation, a high-level Government of Andhra Pradesh (GoAP) delegation comprising of the Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development; the Metropolitan Commissioner, Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (VMRDA); and other senior officials from the Directorate of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) and VMRDA, undertook a two-day study visit to Mumbai. The visit aimed to learn from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region’s (MMR) Growth-Hub implementation experience and to understand best practices in regional governance, land-based financing, transit-oriented development (TOD), slum redevelopment, and large-scale city building. ISEG Foundation is supporting the implementation of the VER Plan, in partnership with NITI Aayog and GoAP, drawing on its implementation support experience from the MMR Growth-Hub.
