The Bengaluru Metropolitan Region is set to chart its long-term economic future, and unlock the next phase of growth for one of India's most dynamic city-regions. On May 6, the Government of Karnataka and ISEG Foundation signed a Statement of Intent (SOI) to jointly prepare the Economic Master Plan for the Bengaluru Metropolitan Region, charting the region's growth priorities up to 2032 and 2037. The SOI was signed in the presence of Hon'ble Deputy Chief Minister, the Chief Secretary and other senior officials of the State Government. The plan will cover economic growth, infrastructure, liveability, and sustainability across Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, and Bengaluru South districts - a region of around 16 million people that contributes over 43% of Karnataka's GSDP. A steering committee chaired by the Chief Secretary has been set up to guide implementation, with the Hon’ble Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister to review the progress on a quarterly basis. Similar to ISEG's work across other city-regions, the blueprint will include an assessment of the region's current economic profile, benchmarking against global cities, a long-term vision for 2032 and 2037, and identification of key investment interventions across sectors including technology, advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, tourism, housing, infrastructure, and sustainability.
