The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade was pleased to host a panel discussion this week as part of our GEDI (Gender, Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion) programme, which brought together elected representatives from across the island of Ireland to reflect on the experiences, challenges, and opportunities faced by individuals from ethnic minority and migrant backgrounds in shaping Ireland’s political landscape.   Discussions highlighted the importance of representation, inclusive policymaking, and continued engagement to ensure that the political structure in Ireland reflects the diversity of our society.   We thank our speakers and all who joined us, both in person and online, for contributing to an important and constructive dialogue.   It provided valuable food for thought as the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade continues to implement its commitment to diversity, equality and inclusion internally and promote human rights, including the right to equal political participation, and the elimination of all forms of racism, xenophobia and related intolerance at an international level. Panellists: Cllr Honore Kamegni – Cork County Council Cllr Dr. Lilian Seenoi Barr – Derry City & Strabane District Council Cllr Supriya Singh – Dublin City Council
