The quantum industry has been waiting for fault tolerance. UCL isn't waiting. The researchers', Peter Coveney, Maida Wang, Xiao Xue, Mingyang Gao, Quantum-Informed Machine Learning (QIML) method uses a quantum processor once, offline, to teach a classical AI model the underlying physics of chaotic systems. The result: ~20% better predictive accuracy, with applications in real-time stroke diagnostics and weather forecasting. Running on the 20-qubit IQM Garnet, the UCL team published their findings in Science Advances. Professor Peter Coveney summed up the collaboration: "Of all the device manufacturers we interact with, you are the most interesting to us. You work with us and genuinely want to know what our views are." That's the co-design approach we believe quantum computing needs right now.
