📖 Member Technical Paper: Minimising Impact, Maximising Connectivity: Lessons from Boardwalk Construction in Coastal Wetlands This paper explores the technical complexities of delivering boardwalk infrastructure in such settings, drawing on lessons from Port Macquarie Hastings Council’s Beach to Beach Shared User Path Project in the Camden Haven region of New South Wales. Two key stages, D3 and D5, highlight the challenges and solutions involved. Stage D3 required the installation of a fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) boardwalk through sensitive mangrove habitat. Lightweight FRP materials were selected for their corrosion resistance and ease of transport, while screw pile foundations were used to reduce ground disturbance and preserve the swamp ecosystem. We thank Jack Devenish from Port Macquarie Hastings Council for sharing their knowledge and experiences in this Technical Paper.
