IPCC leadership contributed to the historic moment last week as the Innovate4Cities Conference https://ow.ly/Yur950ZgRax was held for the first time in Africa. IPCC Vice-Chair Diana Urge-Vorsatz, the Working Group II Co-Chair Winston Chow, and IPCC authors actively contributed to discussions at the four-day conference, which gathered more than 1,200 representatives of African cities, local and national governments, researchers, practitioners, businesses, civil society, as well as youth and community representatives, at the UN headquarters in Nairobi. For IPCC leadership, the Innovate4Cities Conference was also an important opportunity to invite and deepen the engagement with African researchers and practitioners in the current government and expert review of the Second Order Draft of the IPCC’s Special Report on Climate Change and Cities. This is the only IPCC Special Report in the seventh assessment cycle. Scheduled for release in March next year, it is the first IPCC report of the current cycle. The government and expert review of the Second Order Draft of the IPCC’s 2027 Special Report on Climate Change and Cities began on 8 May and will close at the end of this week, on Friday, 3 July.
