At The Crown in Bruges, a limited number of student rooms have been specifically adapted for students with reduced mobility. Thomas Dejagere, Head of Sales at ION, visits one of these rooms and discovers how accessibility can make a real difference to student life. ๐Ÿ‘‡ English subtitles available below. #Bruges #TheCrown #VIVES #veryvives #StudentHousing #Accessibility #StudentLife #IONshorts #ION (English subtitles) Good morning, I have a question for you. Yes? Could we have a look at your student room? Of course, I have not tidied it up 100%, but it is exam period. That is not a problem, we have to see it as it really is. Normally the doors of all the other rooms close, but mine stay open because I also use a wheelchair. That way I can easily go in and out. That is definitely the advantage. Here is my bed, and directly opposite it I have my desk with all my things, so I think that is nicely separated. Nicely decorated too. Thank you. And then the most important thing: the bathroom is quite a bit larger than the others and fully adapted for people with reduced mobility. I hang this lower so that I can push myself up, and for the shower, very importantly, I have a seat. Did you have to search for a long time to find a student residence with adapted rooms? Actually, no. VIVES immediately came into the picture, because I also have a friend who studied here, and she also said: this is perfect for you, because there are lifts everywhere, the classrooms are really spacious, so you can easily get through them with your wheelchair. Then we simply looked for student rooms, and it was requested straight away, and they immediately said: we have adapted student rooms on the first floor. And then it was immediately: okay, letโ€™s do it like that. I am very happy, because I also thought that a regular student room would still be manageable, but the shower was raised a bit. So I am really happy with my room. Great.
